A BBC interview of 1200 people with the interviews likely done by people sympathetic to the Taliban in order to even do interviews...sounds a lot like Walter Cronkite and his fellow journalists after the 68 TET offensive. Trusting journalists is not something I do anymore.

John wrote:"...the US administration appear to have a larger purpose in mind.

As war with China and Pakistan approaches, president Trump wants to keep American troops active in Afghanistan, and to continue to maintain several American military bases in Afghanistan, including two air bases in Bagram and Kandahar International Airport.

These bases will be valuable in any future war with China. Under these circumstances, having troops in Afghanistan is what matters, whether the Taliban are defeated or not."
And that sums up ALL of the military matters on the planet at the moment.

Location, location, LOCATION!

One does not WIN against rust and decomposition. One merely maintains the metal parts (and the flexible hosey-bandy parts, as they wear faster) until it's time to buy new parts!

..but you must have access to the parts to maintain them, and to eventually replace them.

The "Great Wars" are humanity's way of "replacing the bits that need replacing".

..and the cycle of life (evolution) continues.

Ah Mr. Fishdude, how well I understand your sarcastic disgust. Maybe if we could see DJT Jr. and Barron suiting up, this truly Clintonesque "strategy" and waste of thousands of American lives would seem justified. Guerillas are unstoppable save by scorched earth. The Taliban is reminding the world by striking at will. This is yet another "so far no American bodies lately" locale.
In Benghazi 4 American bodies came home to grieving parents. Here we have Angel Moms. The victims' commonality is in being preventably dead. The Pentagon brass has interesting priorities. Wonder how soon that $1,000,000,000 gift base will be (or has been) infiltrated.

International (and local) politics and positioning of armed forces are real and necessary things.

The game (and it is a game) of Nation vs. Nation will be played, whether anyone likes it or not.

Death sucks,.. paying for positioning forces sucks,.. paying for lunch sucks,.. but they all have to happen.

Everyone has their opinion as to the value of people dying "in location A" as opposed to "in location B", and the value of spending bucks on X as opposed to Y,.. but unless we have the "political power" to somehow force our opinion to be valued higher than others, we just get to watch and either complain or applaud.

Our job is to attempt to convince others that we're right (in our opinions) by the ballot and our big mouths.

Welcome to the game! :)

Xers and Millies want to win the war the Taliban started 9/11/2001 and defeat the Taliban. They don't care about the boomers globalist positioning for the boomers "great game" with Russia and China.

Your "Xers and Millies", as you call them, are fodder. Especially the "Millies".

They will be lead around by their noses, like obedient cattle, by their "enthusiasm" to "kill bad guys", as targeted by those with the governmental power to do so and the "vehicles" to transport them there.

Now, I'm not saying that's a bad thing, and I'm not disparaging said "Xers and Millies". They are generationally who they are, as are all the other "generational players", and they will play their part as will everyone else.

The "kill the Taliban" meme has been subsumed into the "kill the anti-American Middle-Easterner" meme, and that will eventually evolve into the "kill the (generally) anti-American" meme, which will further evolve into the "kill the anti-Westerner" meme, which will set the target firmly on Anti-Western Sunnis and their Chinese Resource providers, as well as the Chinese proper, due to their extra-national resource confiscations (territory stealing).

When the greater mass of the european "normally nationalistic" population (within their individual countries) truly starts to "take back the power" (from their anti-nationalist government) to BE their own people, that "attitude" will become infectious within ALL of the world's "oppressed/suppressed majorities" (!?), and the transition to the "kill the anti-Westerner" regime will commence and rapidly accelerate.

By "normally nationalistic" I mean NORMAL (indigenous-ish) people who are proud of their nationality.

..and by "kill" I mean "severely reduce their influence in the affairs of the indigenous-ish nationalistic population's ability to enjoy their culture".
