You are right, you never get the genie back in the bottle, and "disinflation" is the tricky way to act like "deflation" is happening, when addressing the public or trying to sound smart with your language.
As I have stated multiple times, which makes us all correct but the deflation people less so since they are way off on the nuance of this, INFLATION runs until confidence breaks and then the deflationary event happens. I don't know why this is so hard for smart people to understand here.

USD 1970 to now: 462%
USD 1980 to now: 227%
USD 1990 to now: 106%

I work as a nurse at a small rural hospital in a red state. Our nursing staffing is at CRISIS proportions...not because of COVID cases but because they started cutting people's hours because of REDUCED admissions. Now that things are relaxing, surgeries are being scheduled again & people aren't being terrified into not seeking medical care, we do NOT have enough nursing staff to care for the number of patients being admitted. The hospital claims it LOST money during COVID, can't afford to hire more staff & is piling on more & more admissions to "to get us out of operating in the red". Nurses are being forced to work mandatory overtime...as much as 120 hrs/wk...and often shifts as long as 16 hours, usually without any breaks or meals. Despite our Governor ending the added unemployment handouts, no one is applying. This has all resulted in more & more nursing staff walking out the door for other opportunities...especially if those opportunities are NOT in nursing. Our CNA's can actually make $3 MORE per hour at the local Burger King than staying in the medical field! I was one of the lucky ones that was able to keep her nursing job during the alleged COVID crisis when others were laid off, but now me & my coworkers are being worked like junkyard dogs, the nursing staff is burnt out (to a crisp! ) & administration doesn't care as long as they're taking in the dough.
