May I suggest we move this bar to the other side of the island? I'm starting to get a little hot

The cool spot should be the northwest windward side (assuming we're in the northern hemisphere) below the big pali (cliff) surrounded by many lovely palms and Koa trees...Heisenberg wrote:Hmmm... now that you mention it that water did seem a little off....

..which is right over there, so if you'd grab the rum and the mangos, and the tiki torches, I'll get the bamboo architecture and the wall hangin's...

Re: The Tiki Bar
Here's some NIFTY views of the ongoing "playin' around" of that feisty chic Pele, out near Kilauea... (Click the image for video!)
Location: 19°28'57.2"N, 154°52'51.5"W
..it's an ongoing livestream that changes view every now and again. From a farm (avacado) within 1/3 mile from the rift zone.
(With occasional live commentary from the "housemates", and real volcano-ish sound effects!)
If the stream is "dead", go here: https://www.youtube.com/user/civilbeat and see if another livestream is on.

I've been watching this story develop on the news for several days. It's a huge disaster.

As you know, I have a great affection for Hawai'i and environs, but I'm not sure how big a "disaster" it is.John wrote:I've been watching this story develop on the news for several days. It's a huge disaster.
Pele does what Pele does, and the locals respect (mahalo) that. If they DON'T respect that, they haven't been "localized" enough, and they get very little sympathy from the "real" locals.
It sucks to have purchased land and built a life on a piece of land that is overrun by lava, but not taking into consideration the "mana" of that land is like complaining about the cold to the locals of backwoods of Alaska.
..you get lots of "stink eye" from the locals.
Aloha! <shaka nui kanaka!>

Well, Fishy, I guess it just goes to prove, once again, the old adage:
We all get what we deserve.
We all get what we deserve.

OK, Fishy, here's something that's right in your lane.

Re: The Tiki Bar
If by "deserve" you mean: "that which is best for you to learn from at any particular moment", then yeah, I agree.John wrote:Well, Fishy, I guess it just goes to prove, once again, the old adage:

A people who know that they live on a HUGE gift in the middle of an enormous semi-deadly highway (the ocean) tend to have a different idea of what "the land" means.
..by the way, I don't overly romanticize Polynesian culture (too much ). It (the Hawai'ian variant) was a highly caste-based society, with very little "social mobility", employing a rather multi-level master/slave economy. But it WAS an understandable system (within it's context), not unlike MOST human groups of the time, and was often very "satisfying" for the "simple folk", as family oriented village life was of great value to both the "rulers" and the mass of the population.

Kanaloa says, "NO, my kinolau he'e is NOT from this 'outer space' thing! It's from AKUA Space...!".John wrote:OK, Fishy, here's something that's right in your lane.

(that meant: ..my normal-world-form octopus.. It's from DA GODS Space...!)
..but seriously (!?), a liquid-filled spacecraft manned by octopus-like lifeforms MIGHT be a pretty nifty way to deal with high-G space travel!
It could be a bit "cumbersome" to get around non-water worlds when they get to them, though...
Aloha chief (ko'u kahuna)! <shaka nui!>
