George Freidman of STRAFOR was interviewed and said that the Chinese miltary bases being built in the Pacific are "pathetic". He also said that if the Chinese Navy went up against the US Navy that the Chinese Navy would a "very short and exciting life".

He also says that China will proabably break up in a decade.

Dear Solomani, Are you to get caught up in bloodlust against China presence
in the South China Sea? I do not state that the everyone will buddy up because
they are Asian: in fact, these sovereigns will welcome opportunity to
become trade partners, and grow economically and have been largely left
out to suffer unspeakable poverty, except for India and Japan and HK, and
South Korea.
It remains to be seen if the peoples interests will be served, as they have
not by US involvement. I can predict that a unified Asia will come to pass,
but perhaps not India. What needs to happen is that in these disputed lands
the peoples make their own treaties and agreements with China.
It is the American media that continues to promote Sun Tzu's work
"The Strategy of War" in ops and essays by the "experts". War is
all they seem to care about.

The Defense Department has poured millions of dollars into improving conditions for troops responsible for staffing and maintaining the nuclear systems. The administration also is putting more focus on upgrading the weapons. President Barack Obama’s final defense budget unveiled this month calls for a $1.8 billion hike in nuclear arms spending to overhaul the country's aging nuclear bombers, missiles, submarines and other systems.

... and Vietnam, and Moslem Malaysia and Indonesia... China has no friends with the potential exception of North Korea and Pakistan. I don't hate China - I hate totalitarianism - in my book China is only marginally better than North Korea. I would much rather see a free and fully democratic China and a truly free Chinese people. I actually hope that the rapid growth of Christianity in the country will become influential enough to prevent the madness of an unwinable war for China.

Correct. Static defence in an age of long range weapons, especially nuclear, is just a waste of money. And nuking a fake island isn't quite the same as nuking a city. The islands could be all gone in a matter of minutes if the decision was made with a massive loss to China in men and materiel and then the entire loss of the China Sea anyway. Worse, let China control the area around the China Sea while it tries to defend its entire border against hostile countries and internal dissolution as every minority group with any kind of gripe against the Chinese government comes out into the open. Not going to happen.

Asians are too nationalistic to support a united Asia. China doesn't want to unite Asia; it wants to enslave it.

I grew up in Asia. I am currently living in Northern Asia and whenever I hear Chinese government prattle, it makes me think of only one thing: The Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere (大東亞共榮圏). This was a propaganda ploy used by Imperial Japan to justify expanding its extremely barbaric and brutal empire in Asia. Now the Chinese are using it to justify their own expansion at the expense of everyone else. Do the Chinese think other Asians will give up their freedom without a hard fight after all of the suffering endured in this region? I don't know a single Asian that would submit to Chinese rule. The Chinese people don't want to be ruled by Beijing; why should anyone else in Asia want to be ruled by them?

Thank you for you comments. It would be interesting to know what are you friends saying and what is the general mood of your colleagues? Do they see this coming or are they too busy to pay it any attention?

Mixed. Older people see the danger. Younger people just want to find a job in Canada or Australia and emigrate. Government reaction varies. business leaders want/need business with China. Most hope to avoid war without losing everything. The political classes are divided. I think most Asians will be blind sided when China attacks.
