What's interesting is that this situation has parallels to both World War I and World War II. Being that it's been 100 years since the First World War began, that's what analysts have mostly been focusing on, especially since Shinzo Abe has explicitly made that comparison. He's right that it wouldn't take much at this point for this to turn into a major conflict.

However, it seems like the WWII parallels are being completely overlooked by just about everyone. To hear them say it, if anything happens, it'll be completely by accident, overlooking the fact that China has been preparing for war for years now. I remember learning about WWII in history class and always wondered how Europe and America were so blind to what was about to happen. Well, I understand it now.

A question: would you expect the Chinese minority in Malaysia to side with China or against them?

Pretty much of the ethnic Chinese in SG and MY hate the mainland Chinese.

I guess they could be like Nisei - the loyalty is to the country where they're living now.
