Since the Russian Army (and somewhat their Air Force too) have shown themselves to be incompetent, the Russian Navy has now joined them.

What the Moskva, the multi billion dollar flagship, was doing (before it was sunk) is beyond me. I cannot even comprehend why it was anywhere near the Ukrainian coast.

It did, however, show the lethality and effectiveness of modern anti-ship missiles.
Just invite Ukraine to join NATO as soon as the war ends. F Russia. Any country, like Montenegro, that opposes Ukraine's membership should kicked out of NATO. If France or Germany opposes their entry (as they did in 2004!), kick them both out too. I'm tired of this cowardly BS.

It looks like Poland and Ukraine will be powerful regional military powers quite soon. America will need them.

Russia has been completely humiliated. Ukraine , a relatively unknown country, has become a widely respected country overnight. More than that, Russia have been reduced to a third rate power. And now they are stuck behind a new Iron Curtain. It wouldn't be so bad if Putin and his cronies had allowed the economy to be based on something other than guns and oil. Now they can't even buy a decent piece of cheese. The youth of Russia are a minority. Most of the population is old. Russia is an aging demographic on par with Japan (if you remove the Muslim and non-Russian populations). The young are in for a shock. They standard of living will collapse over the next few months. How many Russians can afford to fly to Uzbekistan every time they want to buy a pair of Nikes or a new Iphone (without any after service available)?

I don't think Putin will be toppled by street protests, but a palace coup is possible. All this crap about "the next guy will be worse" is stupid. What's the next guy going to do? Short of launching an all out nuclear war on his first day, I don't see how it could be worse.

I wonder what the Chinese are thinking right now?

Russia's 'broken arrow': Fears that NUCLEAR MISSILES sank with Putin's flagship Moskva amid claims that 452 of the 510 crew have drowned and top admiral has been arrested after cruiser was 'hit by Ukrainian missile'

Moskva, the flagship of Russia's Black Sea fleet, has been confirmed to have sunk near port of Sevastopol

Experts and analysts are now warning that the warship may have been carrying two nuclear warheads

They are calling for an urgent probe into 'broken arrow' incident - military slang for an accident with nukes

Meanwhile questions remain over the fate of Moskva's 510-strong crew, most of whom are unaccounted for

Ilya Ponomarev, a politician exiled from Russia, said as many as 452 members of the crew could have died

Sort of the other way around. Russia wanted to remain an international superpower, so they had to invest in nukes, a navy, International interventions, prestige weapons, etc... One of their lower priorities was taking neighboring countries, where that was Ukraine's only priority. If Russia had made conventional invasion a priority, the invasion could well have been different.

** 15-Apr-2022 World View: Arabs vs Israelis -- violence at al-Aqsa mosque / Temple Mount in East Jerusalem

Image
  • Palestinians protest clashes with Israeli security forces at al-Aqsa mosque

At least 152 Palestinians were wounded in clashes with Israeli riot
police in the Al-Aqsa mosque compound on Friday to disperse
Palestinians who threw firecrackers and stones at them and towards a
Jewish prayer area.

Tensions are high because, in an astronomical coincidence, Catholic
Christian Easter, Jewish Passover, and Muslim Ramadan are all
occurring simultaneously. Orthodox Christian Easter, however, does
not occur until next weekend.

Hamas in Gaza has vowed revenge. When a similar confrontation
occurred in May of last year, Hamas launched a barrage of rockets at
Israel, resulting in an 11-day war, followed by communal violence
between Israelis and Palestinians that has continued since then.

For that reason, it's feared that there will be a new war between Gaza
and Israel.

As an aside, it's worth noting that religious violence doesn't just
occur between Jews and Muslims.

A decade ago, as the Orthodox Christian Christmas of January 6, 2012,
approached, there was violence between Armenian Orthodox and Greek
Orthodox priests at the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. It was
gruesome, as they attacked each other with broomsticks. In that case,
it wsa the Palestinian security police that broke up the fighting. No
one was seriously injured.

** 15-Apr-2022 World View: Administration resumes oil leases on federal land

The Biden Administration Interior Department has just announced that
it would resume oil leases on federal land. This appears to be a
major reversal from Biden's fanatical war on America's energy
industry. Whether it's too little too late remains to be seen, but at
least the Biden administration is beginning to move in the right
direction.

I've written several times that this kind of reversal would be a sign
of the Regeneracy Process in America. Russia's horrific invasion of
Ukraine has unified the Ukrainian people, has unified the Nato
countries, and is even forcing Biden to give up his delusional fantasy
of leading a new world order through climate change.

You make no sense to me.

How is this "sort of the other way around? So Ukraine has been humiliated?

You do not understand Russia at all. The Russians did invest heavily in their conventional forces. At least half of the money was stolen by Putin and his cronies. Russia has invaded and conquered other countries, but the Russian army has performed badly, unprofessionally, and has always had to resort to mass bombardment, carpet bombing. and chemical weapons to destroy their enemies populations.

As for their navy, the money has mostly gone into nuclear submarines which, beyond cutting Internet cables, are really only good for launching nuclear weapons. And that would be the end of civilization and your favorite shows on Netflix. All of these submarines contain, to various degrees, obsolete equipment. Many of the weapon and defense systems are out dated. At least half the navy budget ended up in Putin and his cronies pockets.

Prestige weapons? You mean the ones that they make CGI videos about showing their super weapons bombing Miami? Americans don't make videos like that because their super weapons are real.

The invasion could not be different because the Russian character is what it is.

Putin could have been defeated in 1999, if the West had armed Chechnya and allowed them to destroy the invading Russian army. It was the bigots like thomasglee and others that blocked that because 'Chechens are Muslims'. Now the West faces a humiliated and wounded Russia that just may use Nuclear weapons to avoid defeat. It faces a new Cold War. It faces an energy and food crisis.

Of the West's own making.

You don't understand that.

Exceptional Videos on Russian Military Spending and Theory

Post by Navigator »

In light of this debate, there are two excellent videos that I would recommend.

The first is on the strategic thinking behind the Russian invasion. Russians want ALL of Ukraine, and then some.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkrLUFAcjH0

In order to understand many of the reasons why the Russians have a currently crap Army, check out the following regarding Russian military priorities and spending. All of this person's videos on the Ukraine war are exceptional, and you should watch if you have time.
