Lake Baikal is a crack in the Eurasian supercontinent formed when the Indian subcontinent collided with it, also thrusting up the Himalayan Mountains.

John, your lead piece might have described Europe's migrant-invaded streets, California's druggie tent camps and every American sanctuary city. Garbage is a clue. Guerilla fighters can "sniff out" identity and whereabouts of enemies by following the garbage/human waste trails.
Oriental cultures were once purists in all things, especially opposed to marrying out. Even the scent of western people was found to be odious. The benefits found in western and now Russian culture seem to have overcome those sensitivities. The Chinese do not seem to be learning anything, nor is American government, regarding over reach. And they are delusional about reclaiming Vladivostok.
Putin is playing too many chess games at once. He isn't inscutable and vodka consumption eventually catches up with the imbibers. Enter John Bolton, stage west.
