IIRC, you only missed a week (and then you announced the break beforehand, asking world leaders not to do anything interesting till you got back).

That was in 2014.

It's time to sort the Chinese out.

John, thank you for you diligent daily insights into global affairs. This is where I get my daily synopses of current world events - the ones that matter. Like you said, all the other news outlets focus on scandals and propaganda. Almost impossible to figure out what's really going on. Many thanks. Hope you keep it going for many years.

Happy New Year, John. (Said without irony.)

Now it's 2018, and we're looking forward to an extremely dangerous year, with crises in North Korea, China, the South China Sea, the Mideast, Crimea, Africa, and elsewhere. Any one of these crises could spiral into something bigger. As we've reported recently, even Chinese officials are saying that they expect a war over North Korea in the next few months.
North Korea says it wants talks with South Korea. About what? I think this will be an attempt by China
through their proxy North Korea to enslave South Korea. George Friedman says that South Korea will cave in and America will be forced out off the Korean peninsula. But does that have to mean a full retreat from Asia? Japan and Taiwan want us to stay; so does Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia. If South Korea gives up and agrees to literally become enslaved, why does America have to retreat from all of Asia? Is Korea so important? We can launch nuclear bombs from anywhere. We don't have the ground troops to fight China anyway. The Asians, especially overpopulated SE Asia does. I don't think the average South Korean will give up, but their leftist President Moon just might.

To say that "South Korea will cave in and America will be forced out
off the Korean peninsula" is silly. Kim's proposal to talk in
exchange for American withdrawal is obviously a joke. Even if Moon
Jae-in personally wanted to cave in -- which I doubt -- he would
receive enormous opposition from within the government. Also, it
would take years to negotiate the withdrawal of American troops, and
Kim would be building his nuclear missile arsenal at the same time.
It's all nonsense.

George Friedman believes the South Korean government will throw us out. That won't take years.

I wonder how long Beijing will tolerate protests in Hong Kong?
