John something does not add up
from one of your posted sources

"The initial dimensions of the trench will be 14 kilometers in length and 500 meters deep, but is planned to be as deep as three kilometers in the final stage." from http://www.jpost.com/Middle-East/Egypt- ... rea-380078

500 meters = 1,640 feet deep
three kilometers = 9,842 feet deep

Question, is there any body in the world who could dig this? Am I missing something?

Well, I'm thinking about cutting a superhighway through a mountain range.

Wouldn't that be comparable?

The Jerusalem Post article has been updated to indicate that the trench will be 500 meters wide, as much as three km wide in the final stage.

Ah -- now that makes sense. Question, How many other mistakes are printed but are not so obvious?
