The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which an unskilled person makes poor decisions and reaches erroneous conclusions, but their incompetence denies them the metacognitive ability to realize their mistakes.

But that is a bridge to be crossed on another day. For now, we wanted to bring readers' attention a follow up note from Goldman, 2 months after the first report pointing out the curious divergence between underlying oil prices and junk spreads, which asks the same question that UBS did in June, namely "when will HY start to care about oil",

Trump has resisted calls from across the country to have the federal government harness its unique ability to take the lead, pushing responsibility onto state governors and arguing they are to blame -- not him -- for equipment shortfalls.

"We're a backup," Trump said Thursday. "We're not an ordering clerk."

On Friday March 27th Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer threatened to revoke the medical licenses of doctors and pharmacists who prescribe hydroxychloroquine to treat coronavirus in Michigan. Four days later, March 31st, the same governor asks the federal government to send her hydroxychloroquine to treat coronavirus patients.

thread: locusts, elam, amos

Widespread rains that fell in late March could allow a dramatic increase in locust numbers in East Africa, eastern Yemen and southern Iran during the coming months.

The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimates that 29 countries in East and North Africa, the Near East, Central and South Asia, accounting for 37 percent of global wheat production.

Some consider Javert misguided rather than evil, although his inflexibility and cruelty throughout the novel moves in parallel to Jean Valjean's kindness. Those who consider Javert misguided believe that the distinction of pure evil in the novel more appropriately belongs to the greedy and treacherous Thénardiers. Others consider the Thénardiers dishonest, petty criminals, whose actual negative impact on the protagonists is minor compared to the significant levels of spite and mercilessness Javert inflicts on those he encounters.

Another great example of where Gen X Debacles and The 97th Percentile intersect at certain disaster.

For a long time, Gen X female managers could blow nonsense out their asses and it didn't have any consequences. Now that it does have serious consequences, what to do?

That Gov Whitmer is really sad.

So China is now converting US Government bonds into Oil. I think this is a very wise move on their part. However, it further weakens the dollar position and probably brings us closer to hyperinflation situation. Note Russia and Saudi's are spending dollar reserves because low oil prices means they must. This is a flood of bonds really that will end up causing Federal Reserve to print money.

The states not being able to pay unemployment will end up with Fed printing money too.

The out of control money printing seems closer and closer.

Speaking of Gen X Debacles earlier today, not a day goes by anymore where I don't see yet another Gen X Debacle that boggles the mind.

Knowing that Gen X Debacles are everywhere, it occurred to me that I probably ought to get my 3M gas mask out of storage just in case. This gas mask is a silicon half mask with a cartridge for organics (that probably does no good for preventing coronavirus infection) and a particulate filter (dusts and mists). P100 particulate filters can be used on it, but I had one that is probably a P95. But a P95 will get the vast majority of the particulate, much more than 95%.

So today I went over to Whole Foods to get a few things the regular grocery store doesn't have and took the mask with me. You know, Whole Foods was bought out by Bezos, a Gen Xer. It was raining and on the way over I thought that I would therefore park in the underground garage. When I got there, the entrance to the underground garage was blocked off and there was a long line of about 30 people in front of the store. Since it was raining, the people were crowded near the front of the store and the line snaked around such that people were forced to be about 3 feet apart in every direction. I was absolutely astounded that such a situation could exist at a Bezos owned property given the social distancing rules!

So I took the gas mask with me and put it on before I reached the crowd. After getting in line, I could see people were visibly nervous and I don't think seeing a guy with a gas mask on made them feel any better. I had to wait in line about 10 minutes as it inched slowly toward the store entrance. As I got to the entrance of the store, there was a sign that said to better serve customers, they were monitoring traffic into the store. As someone was leaving the store, I was told to go ahead and go in now. I waited for that person to get 6 feet away from me before entering the store; otherwise I would have crossed paths about 2 feet away from her.
