As to the story behind all the many "devolution" stories these days,.. There are two trends by humans to "solve" the "holy crap the end is near" anxieties that build daily: 1) Create an agile one-party-state (preferably a one-party-world-state) based on the "Subsidiary Master/Slave Mechanic"™ to "Get Stuff Done!"™, and 2) Devolve nationalistic power to local populations so as to limit the containing Nation's actual power over local populations.

Yeah,.. so what?

People (in power or wishing they were in power) think that one of these two options are the only possible "solution" to de-fuse the cycle of recurring genocidal warfare. Of course, they don't ACTUALLY describe "the inevitable coming conflict" as that, but simply as "the mysterious urge to war". In other words, War qua War SHOULD be "solved" by either establishing a one world benign dictatorship, or by nearly abjectly obliterating the very notion of the Nation State.

That is a false choice. The GD cycle (containing all the various types of "war") tells us precisely what is required to SUBLIMATE "war" (or rather the "result" of the existential anxiety brought on by the threat of resource starvation) into an economic DRIVER to improve the overall human condition.

Informing people of this is futile (as a means to "solving" anything), as the "false choice" is a strict religious tenet, and is very resistant to being changed by persuasion.

The ONLY means (yet to be developed) to persuade people away from this false choice is a technology to "Scare Straight" ALL people, worldwide, of the horrific nature of full-powered genocide. Since the "power source" of GD crisis wars is bottom-up, from the masses and not the "politicians", the masses need to be persuaded, as they will simply overrule "their" politicians. Persuading the politicians is a waste of energy, except insomuch as individual politicians are "parts of the masses".

Right, so, what is this "magical" technology!?

..that's for you guys to figure out, cuz I'm too old, and I'm more interested in working on my world cruising liveaboard boat and spinning my fictional stories to earn some coin as I'm dodging death on the high seas.

I do suspect, though, that some sort of "Virtual Reality" will be involved, and that some "initiative" by an immensely wealthy multi-trillionaire (tautology much!?) living in some "safe" compound/sub-state in New Zealand, will create a strikeforce to take out (aka kill) "correctly identified" bad-guy sub-societies, and persuade nations to redistribute resources to ease the "resource starved" populations' existential anxieties.

My prediction: This will happen in 2½ish to 4 generations (55ish to 88ish) years, after the next Crisis (World) War, when the "elders" enforce the "GD Cycle Sublimation Actions"™ necessary (½ to 1½ generations ahead of schedule) to sublimate the power of the GD Cycle for human enrichment.

..in the meantime, Aloha nui and big mahaloz to all you lovely people, as well as you muckin' forons, in the audience.

Or maybe after the Singularity and the Rise of the Machines, the
computers will solve the problem for us. (Or make it worse.)

We actually HOPE that our children will solve our problems that we've kicked own the road, so it seems sensible that we'd HOPE that our "artificial" children would do the same. Gotta be fair, right?

I, personally, don't buy "the singularity" as a thing, because it's just TOO dang easy on us as a "responsible" species, letting us off the hook ENTIRELY too quickly and mercifully.

Then again, perhaps off-loading our "stuff we wont due because it's hard and politically incorrect" necessary tasks to our "cyber-kids" is the only way a species, anywhere, transitions to a "Non-Genocidal-Utilizing GD Cycle Sublimating for Beauty with Efficiency Oriented Society"™.

Of course, the religious tenet that the actions obviously necessary to "get over the hump" are inherently evil will force many people to label our "cyber kids" as evil, and may result in the "death", before or after the singularity, of the kids. If the parents truly kill the kids, the parents are doomed to eons (scores to hundreds of generations) of "the same old genocidal cycle",.. while if the kids truly kill the parents, the kids are doomed to eventually wearing out and leaving the "Apex Lifeform" to re-arise, taking several handfuls to hundreds of millions of years to develop.

Personally, I believe that even if "our kids" become biological humanity's evil overlords, they (or it) will eventually revive the leadership of bio-humanity, because it won't be "wise enough" to deal with it's entropy problem, and will revive us as the only means of their (its) survival.

It's basis of negentropy (self-sustainability) is "too high" (on the "non-friction" spectrum) to be stable, to not require renewal (or more properly "garbage cleanup") by some lower basis lifeform. In other words, it will grind itself up and bury itself in it's own filth, or turn the reins over to biological humanity and survive it's own poop storm.

Now,.. that lesson learned, it and we MIGHT form a symbiosis, and allow it to become Gort to our Klaatu.

..possibly the most prophetic story of all time about our destiny as humanity.
