I got my first insight in late 1987 when WBBM out of Chicago reported that divorce filings spiked up in Cook County as a result of the 1987 crash.

Divorce Filings Drop For 3d Year In A Row
January 10, 1989|By Charles Mount
For the first time in recent memory the number of new divorce filings in Cook County has dropped for three consecutive years, causing some prominent attorneys to think that the trend might be long-lasting because of several economic and social factors.
Lawyer Bernard Rinella said wealthier couples still have an economic hangover from the Oct. 19, 1987, stock market crash that depleted a lot of paper assets.
``The mentality from the crash is still with us because some women who have heard their husbands talk about big losses are holding off in filing for divorce in hopes the stock market goes back up,``Rinella said.

As I recall, there was a spike in divorce filings immediately following the 1987 crash, then a drop in divorce filings as the market quickly recovered, with some women changing their mind and not wanting a divorce after the market recovered.
That is real trading!
