Vlad lived in the 15th century (born around 1430 and died in 1467 or 1468). Let’s take a little tour of Europe around this time.
The “100 Years War” ended in 1453. Terrified by the prospect of peace and prosperity the Brits promptly started the “War of the Two Roses” in 1455.
Spain entrusted Torquemada to jumpstart the Inquisition (1482) and he was to religious persecution what Ford was for the automobile industry (mass production). Property seizures.
In Italy Machiavelli (born in 1469) was working hard to turn his name into a common adjective.
In 1453 the Turks conquered Constantinople thus ending 1,000 years of Byzantine Empire (and devil knows how many Byzantine lives).
So why is everybody picking on Vlad?
The answer is: Bram Stoker and Hollywood.
Compared to what was happening in the rest of Europe, at least by body-count, he was an amateur (bordering on wuss).
PS. In the same period the Italians invented something so terrifying that is still making millions of victims today: the BANK!
And while I admit that I have no evidence for this, I can hardly believe that Machiavelli had nothing to do with that. Lacatus

Ike was smarter than all these son of bitches and Truman correctly diagnosed the agency issue.
