In a surprise revelation, the government said Monday that an unnamed outside party has provided investigators with a method that might provide access to the phone's data.

The US Department of Justice on Monday requested a motion to cancel a Tuesday hearing on whether a federal court order could force Apple to help it open the phone, which is protected by encryption. US Magistrate Sheri Pym, the same judge who previously ordered Apple to help unlock the encrypted iPhone, approved the motion.

The canceled hearing is a strange twist in a heated battle over whether a court can order a company to create software to break its own privacy protections at the government's request.

The case may not be closed, though, because the FBI still has to make sure the technique will work.

Overall the programs are dumbed down to the point that many states are considering requiring a master's degree for professional licensing for engineers.

Hmm that's odd. My feeling was that they were probably trying to stretch it out to make the kiddies go longer. I have found University for engineering too full of the worthless.

Not sure what's going on.

Dumbing it down could increase enrollments, as more students can clear the bar or find engineering palatable.

It could also increase enrollments in Master's degree programs as a Master's becomes more necessary.

Having taken the courses that have been dropped from the list of required courses, the only thing I am really sure of is that the knowledge to do infrastructure engineering is no longer part of the curriculum for that branch of engineering. Which I think circles back to the question of how effectively the US would be able to produce its own steel and how quickly.

I believe Tim Cook from Apple made a similar point regarding why US production of phones is impossible. If memory serves correctly, it is because the engineering skill to do the necessary tool and die no longer exists in sufficient quantity in the US to even serve the needs of Apple.

It seems pretty clear that Europe entered the Dark Age. 2015 or 2016 should be the demarcation date. Russia was the first important country to enter the Dark Age. The US will follow shortly, Trump or no Trump. There's no leadership that exists to correct this.
