How much "long haul" is involved in a nuclear war? I think it will be over pretty quick. The unlucky ones will survive. The parts of the world left untouched (according to John) will be Latim America and Africa, both made up of nations in quasi-anarchy on their best days. I don't see those people being able to maintain, let alone, rebuild much of anything.

I would rather be killed in a war then be conquered by another country. But I won't delude myself into believing that somehow America and China can fight a war without it going nuclear.

Well, I suppose I would rather be dead than envy the dead. But I really have a dread of dying suddenly, being a devout Catholic. I sure hope it isn't a Bolt-Out-Of-The-Blue, but rather is preceded by some days of escalation.

John believes the Chinese will launch a surprise nuclear attack on the US. I can see that. So, death might be a bolt out of the blue. Personally, dying suddenly, in my sleep, for example, has always been something I have hoped for. Hopefully I won't die in a public bathroom. In my own bed would be nice.

As for not wanting to survive a nuclear war, watch the recent Mad Max film and tell me if that lifestyle appeals to you.

You have a good point. Perhaps “long haul” is not a good term. I honestly do not know what it will be like, other than horrible, or how long it will last, other than too long. I have found that pleasant times disappear before they arrive, but bad events can feel a lifetime. In the time we have left there is nothing to be done but continue to live, and face that ultimately life is already too short but beautiful. Quo Vadis.
