Locals told me that the government "tries" to stop companies from polluting but they just cheat, or bribe local, provincial, or national CCP officials as the cost of business. It's their SOP. But if the CCP made a truly concerted effort to crack down on the immense pollution, they'd put themselves out of the export business overnight and unable to compete on quality, instead of price.This is just the Olympics PR "we care about the environment" propaganda ploy, and, like you said, getting the US and others to self-inflict environmental restrictions far more heavily than they EVER will.
