Two very interesting charts you posted Higg. A knowledge of stock market history is very helpful to managing ones financial affairs. Here are two interesting crashes:

After the mini crash of August 2007 the SP 500 made a high on October 7 of 1565, then declined some 18% before panic set in and crashed in August 2008.

The Dow crash of 1929 was caused by less decline in much shorter time. The record high was reached on September 3 of 1929. At close on Wednesday 23 October, only 6 weeks later, the DJIA had declined 12.8%. Next day, Thursday, panic set in and the Dow fell 33 points, nearly 10%. By the time the market bottomed in 1932 some 90% of value had been lost.
