The 8.6% CPI and down market yesterday and today could get people thinking about "reducing their risk exposure" over the weekend.
Monday might be exciting...

Vince, I knew you would have something to say about the 8.6%!! I want to study the constituents more closely but I agree that the probability of a crash / severe correction increases a lot. I would think that the number of private individuals who are now "under water" is substantial and they must be "reviewing their interests" Lets see what the next couple of weeks brings.
Cool, whats the update from your informants?

For a long time now my feeling has been that one of these CPI numbers will eventually make the markets realize that inflation is not transitory.
I am amazed that we have gotten all the way up to 8.6% without the crash.
With long bonds still around 3% they are acting like this goes away in a few months.

The Fed has not really started reducing their balance sheet yet but should next week. Maybe when they do bonds will finally start going down
and stocks can then too.

Yes, the idea is that everyone sells due to crazy inflation and the real return being obviously a joke at that point. Then the only options are Fed buying treasuries, no? And that risks currency devaluation as the valve/pressure release ...

Most believe that they are (of course) jawboning and are going to return to easing when they admit the recession is here. This could be why fewer are selling bonds currently, as they are waiting to sell and switch to stocks, or if it's just cash ... the markets are in for a big mamma jamma drop
