At the same time, nationalism was rising over much of the world. The Habsburg Empire was a complex political entity, with many ethnic groups and languages coexisting within it, and these forces threatened the survival of the Empire. From 1812, moderation would be Metternich's guiding principle in the path to European order, as he carried Austria from the forced French alliance during Napoleon's invasion of Russia (in which an Austrian corps under Karl Philipp, Prince of Schwarzenberg, took part), into neutrality during the spring 1813 campaign, and finally as a leading member of the anti-French alliance which defeated France in 1813-14. In the process, Metternich avoided breaking any of his treaties with his counterparts, knowing that only established order among states would permit fragile Austria to survive. Metternich was very skillful in this and gained the confidence of all rulers at the many European congresses that followed. In his view, solidarity among monarchs would restrain the danger of liberal revolutions and diverse national upheavals around Europe.
The other great character is British Foreign Secretary at the time, Viscount Castlereagh. As the only British politician to understand Metternich's ambitions and reasoning as well as the need for an organized European order, he was strongly criticized in Britain for getting too involved in continental politics in the name of British interests. After the Congress of Vienna, he was forbidden to attend any more European congresses.

This is the story of a communist agent who infiltrated into the Catholic Church in 1938, went to the seminary, became a priest who wielded enormous power behind the scenes, and participated in the Second Vatican Council. It looks as if the United States might be holding the world for ransom from its stronghold in Chaco, with Bolivia’s abundant gas reserves on the one hand and the four-party Guarani Aquifer on the other. If they did have no-shit evidence, they'd have to reveal how they got that - which is no small thing, and shoot you first, then tell you. If they know anything at all, it's more or less that somewhere along the way, a packet was in Russia.
What really bothers me the most is this - and I had a heated discussion with an Ed Snowden-hating intelligence community guy around it - does it really matter where info comes from if it's true? Does the source automatically discredit it and make it untrue, even if the source is an adversary or a dipshit? I'd say, no, not at all, and no one is denying that Ed's stuff was true, or Podesta's, or DNC's. People even had to lose jobs or leave the country over various info like this. Tells me all I need to know, and I used to be an analyst myself.
I am tired of the false conflating of "hurts the intelligence community" with "hurts security" because if all this has hurt anyone, it's the entities that have flaunted law and morality. Yeah, their credibility is in the shitter, and that's bad as it kinda proves there is "just-us", rather than a nation of laws. But revealing that isn't the harm - it's the fact that it's true, and the fault isn't in the messenger, it's in the perpetrators.
