The putative objective - "control economy" - is a slogan. It's there for numbskulls to pin their hopes on, and for slightly-less-numbskulls to parse and evaluate. It's public relations and perception management.
The actual objective of monetary policy is "enrich self, cronies and other members of the overseer class". That is the actual objective of all policy.
'They' have no interest in controlling the economy, except to the extent that a normally-functioning economy keeps the marks from becoming aware that they're being hosed.
'They' don't give a flying fuck what happens to the economy so long as there is deniability (for them) of responsibility when the upwards-transfer mechanism causes economic dislocations - which it does routinely, since the relationship of the private (wealth-creating) sector to the .gov parasite is the equivalent of a 200lb man carrying another 200lb man on his back... where the parasite being carried gets first call on any food.
Thank God that Engineers are not as clueless and incompetent as Economystics cultists / central bankers. From a Control Systems Engineering point of view everything is wrong with central banking. I wouldn't know where to begin to try to explain this technically. I'll try an analogy.
The Economystics cultists are trying to do something like individually controlling all of the vehicles moving at, say 70 mph on a busy 10-lane US Interstate highway. Think downtown Atlanta, Georgia, and I-75. There are tens of thousands of automobiles and trucks on the highway. The Federal Open Market Committee meets once per day to adjust each vehicles throttle position and steering wheel angle. Every vehicle is wrecked inside of the first 30 seconds.
The Economystics cultists / central bankers are truly ignorant morons who are so clueless that they don't realize how clueless they truly are. They have immense power to f*** everything up. But, that's a far cry from succeeding at controlling an immensely complex system.
Funny is it not how toxic sausage and margin asset management are set on fire like cheap hookers as actual conditions take over five years to correct to put the hooker back on the corner. Miss earnings by a nickel and be crucified or go private and watch the semantics to chapter nine rentier energy market looters skip happily along.
Sorry......I work surrounded by engineers. They can design a rocket but would have no idea why they designed it and how to sell it and if all of their calculations will really work out as planned. Not all of them, but many of them have come to believe their own b.s. They have been taught that the almighty formula supersedes reality. The reality is when their designs get into the hands of a guy with an 8th grade education they collapse under the scrutiny of common sense. Not all are like this. But many of them are.
