Europe and US: what future for aliens?

Post by Marco »

Hi all,
My question is:
If we are on the brink of a new 1929,
will our countries survive, with a much more diverse population than in 1929?
for Example , in my Italy, some 10 % of the working force is from other contries;
With the crash they likely will lose their jobs.
Will my country survive such tense times?
In US, latinos will return to Mexico? I don't think so.
Are we sure that the "Clash of civilization" world war will be
conventional warfare and not a huge civil war ?

Latinos will not return to Mexico. If we behave the same way in this 4T as we did in the last 4T, we will return them to Mexico by force.

Reference: Woody Guthrie, the bard of the Great Depression:

Plane Wreck At Los Gatos (Deportee)

The crops are all in and the peaches are rott'ning,
The oranges piled in their creosote dumps;
They're flying 'em back to the Mexican border
To pay all their money to wade back again

Goodbye to my Juan, goodbye, Rosalita,
Adios mis amigos, Jesus y Maria;
You won't have your names when you ride the big airplane,
All they will call you will be "deportees"

My father's own father, he waded that river,
They took all the money he made in his life;
My brothers and sisters come working the fruit trees,
And they rode the truck till they took down and died.

Some of us are illegal, and some are not wanted,
Our work contract's out and we have to move on;
Six hundred miles to that Mexican border,
They chase us like outlaws, like rustlers, like thieves.

We died in your hills, we died in your deserts,
We died in your valleys and died on your plains.
We died 'neath your trees and we died in your bushes,
Both sides of the river, we died just the same.

The sky plane caught fire over Los Gatos Canyon,
A fireball of lightning, and shook all our hills,
Who are all these friends, all scattered like dry leaves?
The radio says, "They are just deportees"

Is this the best way we can grow our big orchards?
Is this the best way we can grow our good fruit?
To fall like dry leaves to rot on my topsoil
And be called by no name except "deportees"?

Anyway, it's quite possible, perhaps likely, that the U.S.A will find itself majorly overextended in foreign lands with repression at home. These last few years have been interesting though, and I'm not entirely sure if Americans will gladly accept that security comes at the price of liberty.

We better. Impossible to have both without compromises.

In the event that the US is attacked and suffers devastating continental loses in which the economic and government infrastructures collapse, the states may retain and exercise their sovereignty (as best they can), but borders may no longer exist as enforcible boundardies. I can see a world war leading to a free-for-all where ethic groups clash to gain and keep territory. I can imagine new nation-states being carved out of northern Mexico and the Southwest US. If there is no resistance, what is to stop a ISIS-like movement to actually create Aztlan?
