John: Gotta thank you because, based solely on your Generational Dynamics theory -- which has always rung true to me -- I was able to convey to my multiple concerned family members that "No, we are not going to war" (at this time) when they asked me what I thought.

at this time, of course, is the operative phrase.

What did you say when they asked you why you thought so?

There are rumors of the regular armed forces in Iran stirring against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The tensions have been there for decades, but now moderates in the armed forces are contemplating the unthinkable: a coup. Which would mean civil war.

Actually, it wouldn't be a civil war at all, certainly not like the
1979 civil war, which was a generational Crisis era. Today, Iran is
in a generational Awakening era. If there are any clashes, they would
fizzle fairly quickly (although I have to hedge a bit, since the 2011
civil war in Syria should have fizzled fairly quickly, but it became
a proxy war and continued).

By this time, the people in the armed forces have no personal memory
of the Islamic Revolution or the Iran/Iraq war, and all they know is
that the old geezers running the country are screwing everyone. In my
opinion, any "coup" would be a "velvet coup" or even a "bloodless
coup," with a quick collapse of regime, replacing it with something
else that might be better or worse. (Recall that the Shah was almost
as brutal as the Ayotollah. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même
chose.
)

I read that's a possible reason the rockets may have missed their target: members of the regular armed forces don't want to fight the US. They are saving their bullets for the mullahs...

@ John -- I told them that Iran is currently is an Awakening era where the youth are "questioning authority" and that the Iranian youth actually like the West, which is at odds with the older hardliners. I also explained the differences between Sunnis and Shiites (explaining who's on 1st and what's on 2nd). I explained about the protests and who was doing what and where regarding same. I also pointed out that for Iran, with the multitude of missiles they are reported to have, sending 10 or 12 missiles is a "save face" maneuver. So thank you, John-Obi Wan -- you have taught me well.

...oh, and I provided them the link to your website and the links to multiple other articles to support what I was telling them.

All that info was conveyed with 2 thumbs and an iphone.
