This is the heart of the issue for the CCP. This isn't Tiananmen
Square 1989. Hong Kong is densely packed with homes, stores and other
structures, with plenty of places for the protesters to hide out. The
tanks would have to literally flatten the city to "crush" the
demonstrators.

I'm watching Carrie Lam live, giving her weekly Tuesday morning press
conference. She's saying that there are no plans to invite in the
army, and she says that it's not necessary, because the HK police can
handle the situation.

As I've written in the past, the Chinese army cannot do anything that
the HK police can't do. They could bring in tanks, but tanks would be
useless in such a densely packed town as Hong Kong. As stupid as the
CCP leaders are, they're apparently not dumb enough to send tanks into
Hong Kong.

Nope John, the PLA would simply mow down several thousand protesters and disappear several thousand more into internment camps. The Rest would scatter back to their homes and hope to salvage as much as they can when order is restored.

I agree with you, John, that the CCP (as with every totalitarian tyranny) makes stupid decisions under stress,.. and they're just not acting stupid enough yet.
