I have noticed IMAX 3d movies are becoming routine. In 1939 you had movies like the Wizard of Oz and Gone With The Wind. Movie making had reached a new point in maturity in its quality and use of color and sound which set a new standard.
It may not mean anything just something I noticed.

Ford matured in the 1920s. The polio vaccine matured in the 1950s.
