Re: 23-Sep-12 WV-Religious conflict rises around the world
old1953, that is what elections have been about since they started. Throw out the government history books and read the real stuff sometime. That was the state is, an organized crime syndicate. Just, it is much worse at some times than others. You might note the 1980's S&L mess, together with a lot ...

Can anyone explain to me how the Fed stealing $500 billion in capital from the American economy is going to be good for it?

Re: 7-Sep-12 WV-European Central Banks opens the floodgates
I believe your model may actually understate the inflated values of the market. I did a lot of financial calculations on data put out by Robert Shiller back in 2003. What I found, using the famous 1926 standard, along with the CPI figures Shiller posted was that inflation had averaged 3% from 1926 t...

John, this isn't savings. There isn't any money in the system that banks don't create themselves. The Fed creates money for banks to solve their liabilities in cash, much of which circulates, but most of which flows between banks to solve interbank liabilities. The banks must make new loans or they ...

Re: 29-Jul-12 World View - Geithner's testimony raises quest
I was in the middle of the major portion of the S&L mess in the 1980's. Almost none of those people were boomers. I think John is correct in that boomers thought this stuff really worked and turned it over to the Xers. The whole mess has been compromised. Geithner sat up in NYC and let the whole gam...

John, I did take the Capital One insurance once. I pay those cards off every month and I took it only under the promise that only a balance carried over would be charged a fee. Sure enough, it was tacked onto the first balance and I immediately called and the fee was taken off and the coverage remov...

Re: 19-Jul-12 World View -- Syria bombing strikes blow at As
I think what John means is there really isn't much of an organized opposition to Assad. We had the bombing of the Capital in the 1960's, huge protests, but other than a few small splinter groups, no civil war. If we had a totalitarian government, the response would have been worse. As it was, the re...

The LIBOR fixing scheme is quite revealing and amazing. Note how Jefferson County Alabama and Harvard University both ended up on the wrong side of interest rate swap trades. They lost a fortune. Who was running the other end of the trade, which was won big time by the nature of the movement of inte...

Re: 16-Jun-12 World View -- Anxious world awaits Greek elect
Looks like we have reached the point they reached in Viet Nam, where they had to destroy the village to save it. These outfits in Europe are broke. So are most of the other governments around the world. Their aim is clearly to systematically destroy the debt rather than solve it in bankruptcy. In do...
