Southern Gentleman, I don't buy that at all. They had HFT in 2008 and it did nothing, but lead to a collapse. HFT jumps in front of bids and asks, when the market allows them to sell or buy back at an immediate profit and little else. Most of the bids aren't even real. It produces stuff like the fla...

John, why else would all this fictional nonsense be repeated over and over again. The more I study, the more I understand oligarchs took control of the US education system roughly 100 years ago and made it self serving to them. We are now managed by economists whose only solution is to continually b...

The reason the market is falling apart is not that Bernanke is going to stop QE. The banking system didn't need any more money before he started this latest round. Speculators need the buying pressure it creates, as more and more capital is trapped in cash. In any event, various bubbles around the w...

Who is going to fund the exit of money from Europe? Bennie? The US MM funds are heavily tied up in Euro banks. The situation provides a mathematical scheme with no solution. Bad debt must be paid by debt freely acquired. Cyprus' debt wasn't any good, so the banking system had no resolution. Ireland ...

Could it be that John can see what is going on and you are thin skinned? As broad as the US has been, it hasn't tried to claim the Gulf of Mexico or offshore Venezuela so it can own the minerals China is stepping on the Philipines, which is one hell of a long way from China. They are acting like a t...

The DHS needs to be disbanded. They present a worse long term threat to the American Republic than any number of terrorist groups. They damn sure shouldn't be armed to any great extent. The name, Department of Homeland Security sounds like something out of NAZI Germany.

Re: Inflation, deflation, gold and currencies
I doubt there would be a bank holiday. There is no gold for one thing. Secondly, the banks are full of so much cash that it would take a massive run to create a problem. The government deals with bank insolvency like we change lightbulbs and it is all make believe. The 1933 bank holiday was a shield...

Good work on the stock market numbers John. I have done my own work over the years and your figures are accurate. I might add that the 4.5% you mention as long term growth also includes a 3% inflation component, thus holding the entire stock market provides a gross of 1/2% over the risk free rate of...

The Iowa editor merely strenthened the reason why we need all the guns we can get. The US has pretty much suspended habius corpus, so what is next?

An active thread. As for Mauldin, I may have sent him an email in response to one of the articles he wrote, describing the broken stock market model and impossibility of pension funds making their returns back in 2003. I had deduced, by analyzing 130 years of data that the stock market wouldn't exce...
