Re: Inflation, deflation, gold and currencies
A little OT, but if I were buying precious metals to use as money in times of crisis, I'd buy silver coinage, preferably "junk silver" of little or no collectable value beyond the fact that it's silver, and old.

At her age it is possible that she's had some mini-strokes which have affected her higher functions, such as knocking out the internal censor It's amazing what some people who have had them will say. And what's revealed may not always be a long-held conscious attitude held in check by conscious disc...

But hasn't the Youth Mass as you describe it been going on for something like 40 years? One should think people would have had time to get used to it by now. And aren't traditional masses also available, often at a different time on the same day? Interesting that you picked "over 65" - i.e. "pre-Boo...

Shocked to hear another country on the edge of Europe is in bad financial trouble. Sorry - a line from Casablanca comes instantly to mind there!
Yes, shocked, I tell you, shocked!

Why not wheat? At least you can eat wheat. The UAE needs wheat a lot more than it needs more gold. They might do that. But for most people it is easier to fit an interesting amount of gold into their safe deposit box. Also, if you come back a few years later your gold is fine but your wheat might n...

I'd have said Mexico was in a Fifth Turning except for one thing: they seem to be on a 100-year cycle for some strange reason. 2010, 1910, 1810 ... earlier I'd have said it was because they were still agricultural, but were they? Of course, if they're entrained to our own Fourth Turning cycle now, w...

I've been running the Korean situation past a friend whose dad was a veteran. She says "Let the million NK soldiers come, bottle them up in the DMZ, and offer free food to any who defect. Carpet-bomb the rest." She points out the DMZ is highly defensible. I'm no military strategist, but as far as I ...

I'm not totally out of the market yet, but when I need a large job done like having the plumbing contractors in, I go through the portfolio and sell off the ones that look like they're riding high and are actually dinosaurs in the making. (Yes, XOM, I'm talking about you.) I keep them because they a...

Re: Inflation, deflation, gold and currencies
I wish I'd bought an ounce of gold - divided up into auragram-sized pieces - in 2001! I'd have had me a nice little profit if I'd sold any of the pieces today. Alas, I'd seen the price of gold act like a yo-yo so many times I'd stopped noticing.
