Re: 9-Dec-11 World View -- Sarkozy: Europe risks a new explo
It seems foolish to excuse someone just because they're in the same generation; it doesn't matter. Course, Madoff seems to be one of the only people actually going to jail. If this was a movie, I'd find the plot too implausible, but here we are. I still have some hope that at least some of these peo...

Re: 9-Dec-11 World View -- Sarkozy: Europe risks a new explo
Who cares what generation they belong to? They deserve to be serving 20-year prison sentences.

Re: A further question re: Europe
If anything, that would be an understatement. Course, they'll try to delay making decisions, say they'll do it in a month or two. When that happens, they'll delay it again, but it's a moot point. Greece is a goner and I'm frankly amazed they haven't defaulted yet. I imagine the rating agencies are h...

I think Assad's actually in the Hero generation, at least Syria's version. Their crisis ended in 1984 with the Hama Massacre.

Re: A further question re: Europe
When it breaks out, we'll likely try to stay out of it at first, encouraging negotiation between the two warring sides. That might delay it for a few years, giving hope that there will be a peaceful resolution, but ultimately, we will have to take sides and I find it likely that we will be on Britai...

Re: 9-Dec-11 World View -- Sarkozy: Europe risks a new explo
A thought that comes to me with the Fast and Furious operation is that there have recently been e-mails leaked, showing conversations between ATF agents about how they can use this to further their gun control agenda. At this point, I'm not what you would call surprised.

I don't know how they can keep this up for much longer. Europe is imploding and we're not far behind them

Re: Financial topics
I think it's possible to have massive inflation if the war ends badly for us, since it's no guarantee that we're going to win this time around. That's what happened in the Confederate States, but it occurred during the war, not the panic. Where you see hyperinflation is when a crisis war, ends badly...

Re: A further question re: Europe
Then that makes me wonder if a civil war is possible as well, particularly in places like France. Hatred's growing on both sides, despite attempts to keep things calm. I've heard some talk of simply throwing their immigrants out, though I'm not sure if that's just idle or if there's a serious discus...

Re: Financial topics
Things just keep getting worse and worse by the day, and what you posted about Greek bonds is unbelievable. Considering everything, why hasn't the stock market crashed again? I've looked at the list and over the past year, it seems to be holding roughly steady. It's even going up a bit. Well, all th...
