Re: Financial topics

A few weeks ago, several postings noted that managers are hiring incompetent subordinates; and basically competent people quit or are fired. This morning an employee of mine told me a story about his grandson. My employee (grandfather) is a highly intelligient, competent employee. A few months ago, ...

Re: Financial topics

Addendum: Just happened to look at metals prices this morning, and gold is over the price of platinum, and about 58 times the price of silver. In the world since 1900, those ratios should hold near gold as 1/2 platinum and no more than 25 times silver. I don't watch the gold/silver ratio often, but...

Adeans - of the Russian loan from the IMF, was any of it repaid?

What of the parabolic nature of IMF loans... 1 billion to 10 billion in the 1990's, now the world doesn't mind throwing around 300-400 billion.

Re: Financial topics

While watching Bloomberg TV early this morning, I watch news reports of the IMF gathering 320 billion to bailout Europe again because of the crisis. (Are you exhausted from hearing the term "crisis" as I am?) No leader wants the historical stigma of the dominoes tumbling down on their watch. But 320...

Re: Financial topics

There were many other businesses bailed out, just just haven't hear of many of them. Furthermore, the bailouts of the ones you mention, did have somewhat of a trickle down effect an therefore indirectly bailed out others (their suppliers). Not saying that was a good thing. That's the official justi...

Re: Financial topics

Trever wrote: That reminds me: I read that many businesses actually start and grow during economic downturns. I was skeptical at first, but it does make a certain amount of sense. During a recession, plenty of people go out of business, clearly the way for new businesses to take over. However, we've...

Re: Financial topics

This bear went back into hibernation, for the most part, at 1410. Intend to try to rebuild position around April 20. Bears have gotten very hungry, and have been hunted relentlessly by the Fed, But the Fed and Europe should be about out of ammo. Still minorly short ES, and 100% short 6E. :(

Re: Financial topics

A vehicle operating from compressed air is further idiocy. Energy continues to be lostin each step in the transfer of power, because no source of power transmition is 100% efficient. Of course the burning of fossil fuels in an internal combustion engine is highly inefficient, but burning of fossil f...

Re: Financial topics

The industrial revolution made life easier for the masses. The "Irish girl" cleaning a home worked for a pittance, and her family all had to work for similar small amounts in order to have enough food and firewood to survive. Post depression era brought transfer payments, welfare, minimum wage, and ...

Hig - I went all in today; have been riding 25% short since 1275, had GTC in at 1335 for 50% and at 1340 for 50% of usual trade size. Short 6E 100% for a week. The increase in aircraft carriers in the gulf, increased tension of Isreal/Iran caused me to purchase 100% of yearly diesel fuel for farm op...
