Re: Financial topics

When I say "understand" the financial system I'm referring to specific knowledge of how the transactions are made. For example, how bond auctions are conducted, how the Federal Reserve conducts interest rate controls, how IPO's are instituted as well as how currency swaps between central banks are m...

Re: Financial topics

Yes, absolutely Burt. And I think that the modern day oppressive force which seeks to take our private property, autonomy and identity is a political class armed with central bank/fiat currency/legal tender laws. As they influence, to a greater or lesser extent the decision making within ALL transac...

Re: Financial topics

I think there are two distinct groups in our society. Those that understand the financial system and those that don't. Those that don't simply believe what's being broadcast by the mainstream media. Those that do are (and are bullish about the markets) are disregarding the degree to which we have su...

Re: Geithner Says U.S. Insolvent

Crosstimbersokie, this is absolutely true about the US treasury. Too bad that failure will not force these clowns to change direction. For the rest of us, failure means just that whether it is painful or not. All entitlement programs need reform/elimination to the extent that their existence does no...

Re: Financial topics

That's why we bailed out AIG. With all the legal genius we apparently have in this country, why can't we grill the banks and anyone involved in this securitization (what amounts to) insurance fraud? When was the last time a big car insurance company blew up? Yeah, because that's what happens when re...

Re: Financial topics

As a Genx'er I know that nobody my age knows any real trouble. My friends think I'm a nut and an old fart like my grandparents. But my grandparents went through some very serious times, though. GenX has circled the wagons of denial and selfishness and will try to game the system for all it's worth a...

Re: Financial topics

Higgenbotham, good point. Although I would add that back in the '40's, people's motivation was to defeat evil and this time the motivation is simple monetary gain. Even if the effect of the greater Ponzi will enslave their own children. GenX is a very sad, unfortunate lot.

Re: Financial topics

This may sound like a rater simplistic comment, but since governments and central banks are all in then the various stock and bond markets are simply trading "government faith". The only thing, in my opinion, that will stop this faith will be rising interest rates on sovereign debt. Unlike the '70's...

Hello all

I was first introduced to Generational Theory by Charles Hugh Smith's book list that included Strauss and Howes "Fourth Turning" book. So intuitively correct the theory is and how interested I became in it, I happened upon John's website and it has become a daily read. The Generational Theory litera...

Re: Financial topics

There is indeed the possibility of a panic at any time now as so many potential triggers from the Euro mess to Japan sliding to oblivion to a panic in China. I don't think, however, we are that close to the "Big Kahuna" that will bring us to Dow 3000 or thereabouts yet. The reason is that most marke...
