One possible reason why Israel is invading Gaza

I'm very surprised no one is talking about the reasons why Israel may have escalated the palestinian issue. Regarding your statement... "Or the invasion may have begun by the time you read this. If the invasion does take place, it's hard to see what the objective will be." Maybe they are taking out ...

"This is a great surprise. The Fed has already begun purchasing Treasury bonds, as part of the quantitative easing ("QE2") program that was announced last week. What SHOULD happen is that the large Fed purchase should RAISE the price of bonds (by the law of supply and demand), and yields should go d...

Re: Home Loan advice

I'm as doom and gloom as most on this site, but I must admit I'm surprised at the ability of the market/government to hold disaster off, I think we are looking more at a Japanese style "lost decade" rather than a "hole up with an AR-15 and a pantry full of SPAM" situation. IMO, you are giving the g...

Re: Home Loan advice

Hey Guys, I'm a longtime follower of this board and I'm looking for some advice. I think some of the insight I read here is better than anyplace else. I'm seriously considering getting a 5 year ARM loan for around 4.5%. I'm in a 30 year fixed at 6% right now. I know these ARMS have gotten a bad nam...

Quoting Roubini?

I've been watching Roubini on CNBC for the last couple of months. When the DIJA was approaching 10,000 and everyone thought the worst was over he was on CNBC saying that just like he predicted, the recession would last 2 years (Q4 2009) and was about to recover. Then he went on to say that there was...

Re: Financial topics

Okay, I agree with the idea that these generational/social forces have a very large impact. However, I still believe that the people in power and their policies have a significant impact. Certainly, did Greenspan have to loosen credit as much and as long as he did? He did have some control over the...

Re: Financial topics

John: I’m starting to wonder if it is not just incompetence on Mr. O.’s part but that he doesn’t care about saving our economic system. On an even more extreme basis, maybe he actually wants to destroy our current system so that he can rebuild our system on his own lines of “justice”. I certainly t...

Re: Financial topics

Tobyguy said: What's another 3000-4000 DOW points when we've fallen over 7000 already? Suppose you have a friend who put $10,000 in the stock market when the Dow was at 14,000. Suppose his investment is now $5,000, after the market dropped 50% to 7000. Suppose your friend has had enough, and gets o...

Re: Financial topics

All the Washington officials, even including Ben Bernanke, talk about solving some particular point problem -- such as saving a bank or building a bridge..... When you look at the entire problem from the top down -- the $1 quadrillion in credit derivatives -- you realize how hopeless the problem is...

Re: Financial topics

I don't think you understand how secondary markets work. For every seller of a treasury bond, there is a buyer. They call that an "exchange". Investors can sell all the bonds they want, but that can't cause a decrease in money supply (it can and WILL cause a run up in rates however). Any holder of ...
