I've added this paragraph to the article:

Much of the 1947 Partition war that followed the partitioning of the
Indian subcontinent into India and Pakistan, one of the bloodiest wars
of the last century, was fought in Punjab. The Sikhs had been hoping
for their own state, but instead were forced to choose between
Pakistan and India, and had to choose the latter. This was the Sikhs'
last generational crisis war.
