An unending "emerging story" as returning vets who served in Afghanistan will relate. Our troops live on Red Alert and are ever-vigilant for land mines and snipers. Wisdom dictates that muslim terrorists will not just beat their swords into plowshares and fade away. Muslim sectarianism is inculcated from birth.
The American Afghani bases are strategic necessities. Note ISIS/Taliban specific attention to American presence and news personnel, though the latter may indeed be left leaning. The killing will continue. Withdrawing from Afghanistan is only an option if you don't mind fighting on American soil. 9/11 was merely a warning. Look at what followed. The DOJ needed a thorough cleansing and careful restaffing.
