Yes, But directions and alliances can and do change. To what? Only time will tell.

Hmmm --interesting --- China -- a repeat?

The Fall of the Ming Dynasty (1557–1644)
Like the Yuan Empire, the Ming Empire had strong leaders and was prosperous at the beginning. But like the Yuan Empire, at the end there were rebellions and natural disasters, a period of cold and dry climate, the economy was in shambles, people believed that the Ming court had lost the Mandate of Heaven, and the ruling court was ineffectual. http://www.chinahighlights.com/travelgu ... ynasty.htm

The Maunder Minimum, also known as the "prolonged sunspot minimum", is the name used for the period starting in about 1645 and continuing to about 1715 when sunspots became exceedingly rare, as noted by solar observers of the time. https://www.google.com/search?espv=2&bi ... pIKHbvdAME

Will we have another minimum? depends upon what you read -- you know --- politics --

Nature holds all of the trump cards, and plays them as She see's fit. We are but pawns in the grand game.

cheers

According to CNBC this morning, "Local governments in China announced
that they'll be buying more stocks."

So does this mean China isn't going to take over the world? Or does this mean the Chinese government will panic and launch a regional war to unite the nation behind the CCP? Now might be a good time to manufacture an incident with the Phillippines or Japan.
