Land invasion from Russia would more likely be oriented toward annexing the entire East Bank of the Dnipro River, the lands that have been under the control of Russia for a large portion of the last several hundred years.

The southern portions of Ukraine around Odessa and the Crimea are susceptible to occupation by troops landed by sea, and are less likely to require ground troops.

Other than Kiev, Odessa and the southern coast along the black sea, occupation of the portion of the Ukraine west of the Dnipro River is less likely.
