According to an investigation by the Middle East news outlet Al Monitor, Saudi Arabia has secretly offered Russia a deal to control the global oil market and safeguard Russia's gas contracts if the Kremlin backs away from the Assad regime in Syria.

And Lebanese newspaper As-Safir wrote that Saudi Prince Bandar offered to protect Russia's Syrian naval base if the Assad regime is taken out, and suggested that there could be Chechen terrorist attacks on Russia's Winter Olympics if Putin didn't work with the Saudis on this.

Allegedly, Bandar said: “I can give you a guarantee to protect the Winter Olympics next year. The Chechen groups that threaten the security of the games are controlled by us.”

always do what his constituents want, in all circumstances?

major decision?

No, that is why I said "would be nice if our representatives did this on occasion." the litmus test might be, "Are you willing to send your son and daughter to fight for these people? " if no then keep our sons and daughters the hell out of it. If so send them and leave us out of it.
Both sides are against us in Syria, Assad will keep things stable, The radicals will not. The only thing we have to fear in Syria is the state falling and the terrorists gaining access to all the weapons like in Libya.

The event can be seen as:
1°) a victory for parliamentary democracy. The House of Commons has remembered the British Parliament is the focus of democratic legitimacy. From a French point of view it's amazing: nobody here seriously expects the National Assembly to reject a bill if proposed by the Government (the last time it happens it was in 2008) and certainly not on important business such as foreign policy.
2°) poetic justice: who are the cheese-eating surrendering monkeys now ?
3°) the confirmation we don't live in a wilsonian world
4°) A minor impediment for Barack Obama, a major defeat for David Cameron
5°) After Mali a confirmation François Hollande is in fact quite bellicose (he wants to move on and he has just sent a warship towards Syria)
6°) A success for Assad

If true: confirms rebels have access to chemical weapons, Saudis and Qataris are delivering money & weapons to rebels (including Jabhat al-Nusra), Prince Bindar of Saudi Arabia is delivering chemical weapons to untrained rebels, CIA (US government) is fully aware (and possibly backing) at least some of Prince Bindar's activities, the pretense for planned retaliation by the West is undermined by rebels having perpetrated the attack instead of Syrian government forces, and we confirm why you shouldn't let children play with dangerous toys.

However, as Sky news is currently showing video of what appears to be a napalm attack on a school by Syrian government forces, the West should be able to make a smooth transition into a new justification for air strikes.

This has no connection to 1938 Germany. Hitler was invading others, Syria is killing terrorists and rebels who want to overthrow a sovereign government.
If Assad falls the terrorists win and further destabilize the region. Like the assassination of Libya's MQ showed, Western interests in this region have nothing to do with human rights but with continuance of the war state.

I was reassured by the Prime Ministers statement "it is clear to me that the British parliament, reflecting the views of the British people, does not want to see British military action." It would be nice if our representatives did this on occasion .
