To me, it seems the earlier this war with China starts the less damage is likely to result, to the US I mean. If it started now, it'd most likely come about as a proxy war with the US backing India and the Chinese backing Pakistan. If it comes later, then it'll be face to face over Taiwan. On the other hand:

That's anti missile ship protection, and other things as well. OOPS, wrong system. They are coming on line so fast now, it's hard to keep up. That ones the anti personnel attacking system to kill small boats. Ah, found the anti missile/drone system link again. Tests were on the opposite coast.

It appears high energy laser weapons have finally passed the lab stage and are ready for actual use. That means we MIGHT be able to protect cities from low altitude missiles. HOWEVER, the high altitude EMP strike is another matter.
Thing is though, laser weapons are past that stage where it's all experimental now, they are going to the field.
