China, Turkey, Syria, the GCC - all these groups are operating under the assumption that provocations will be met in kind, or not met at all. There is no worry that provocations may be met with a response out of proportion to the provocation, or that others might join in to defend the attacked and punish the attacker. Escalation can happen in a matter of minutes, and history shows it to be nearly impossible to step back from a conflict once you are involved.

That's very well put. That's exactly what happens in a crisis era.

Thanks for the kind words.

Now the Saudi's are beginning to have problems at home.

And allowing women to drive might be viewed as the tip of the iceberg by the traditionalists. Women are still not allowed to vote in the Kingdom and have to get permission from a male relative to go to work or to travel.

"'We want women from today to begin exercising their rights," said Wajeha al-Huwaidar who is a Saudi women's rights activist. "Today on the roads is just the beginning of a long campaign."
*************

It's a nearly sure thing that overreaction will be the hallmark of the Saudi response. And that will mean more police and more military pushing back against the protestors. As rulers become more accustomed to military/police solutions to social problems, war becomes more and more likely.
