The big question here is how many of the Pentagon strategy heads are barry holdovers? Sub-query is, how many strategists have had Afghanistan boots-on-the-ground patrols on mined roads and in booby trapped jungles? Have American military brass considered tribal Afghani's and their physical superiority? Have Americans ever mastered jungle fighting?
Seems something is amiss in the strategic planning department. Do we have anyone endowed with the Georgie Patton's smarts?
We need thoses bases. Are they any more secure than our southern border?

In a serious war with either Russia or China those bases would be targeted by Chinese forces or Russian forces at the beginning of hostilities. Regarding the Taliban, During most of our 17 years in Afghanistan troop levels have been no higher than 35000 Americans and another 10000 NATO troops, even the soviets at least had about 200,000 or more troops during their war. That the Countryside is a domain of Taliban and warlords is therefore of no surprise, no serious effort had been made to pacify the countryside. To boomers the actual war in Afghanistan is something that should just be ignored, no effort will ever be made to even attempt to win under the boomers watch because doing so would mean the triumph of actual American interests over globalist "world democracy and hostility to all totalitarian regimes". Boomers like the bases though and if they could ever have it their way we would be telling the Taliban "have Afghanistan as long as you leave our bases alone": This is because the bases symbolize the boomers cherished "great game", the forced democratization of Russia and China.

CH
Color me surprised. We agree.
Of course, you realize the Taliban will have none if it. Increasingly joined by ISIS warriors, incursions will increase. Wearing down is an MO, and after all, lives are cheap.
