No way. Azerbeijian people are ethnically Turkic, and about one-third
of Iran's population is Azerbeijiani, many with separatist tendencies
who would like to form a "Greater Azerbeijian." In this case,
ethnicity trumps religious sect.

Following your line of thinking, why don't Sunni and Shia Arabs stick together? It seems religion trumps ethnicity in the Arab world. Look at lebanon in the 70s and 80s.

kinds of fault lines -- religion, ethnicity, geography, skin color,
and so forth. In Saudi Arabia in the 1920s, for example, the crisis
war was between the al-Saud clan and the Salafists. All of them were
Sunni Muslims, but the Salafists considered themselves more "Sunni"
than the Sauds.

When the Shah ruled Iran, Iranians did need a visa to go anywhere. Iran was a respected country, a rising power, and prosperous.
Now Iranians live in poverty. Today there are over 300,000 prosititutes just in Tehran. Persian women are forced into prostitution to survive. It was never that bad under the Shah.
Iran has been moving backwards for over 30 years. When will the mullahs fall?
