after the world economy collapses, I'm expecting some European countries to collapse into dictatorship, just like what happened in the 1930's. Greece is a good candidate, since theirs was only overthrown 35 years ago.

If I understood it correctly, according to the Generational Dynamics theory, there will be a crisis war soon whether the euro collapses or not. And Sarkozy is only trying to save his job. He couldn't care less about the peoples of Europe, he just wants to remain king. So we may have him for another 5 years, or we may have another king to rule over us and it won't make much difference anyway ;).

Well, I wouldn't say that Sarkozy doesn't care about people. Even
people who are completely incompetent or unethical or immoral or
crooked or all of the above can still care about people, but still
place them at a lower priority than his own politics or ideology.

The euro is going to collapse in one way or another, since public
debt continues to grow exponentially, and there's no way to stop
it. However, the euro will not die. After the war ends, it
will be revived as the currency for a new European Union, with
a constitution that will "guarantee" that Europe will never have
another war again.

so maybe a temporary death is a good way to put it. it's a good question as to whether or not the euro will survive 2012. I hear people saying that we're moving in the right direction, but it doesn't seem that way to me.

Anguilla, where I live, is part of a currency union called the "East Caribbean Dollar". A bunch of islands share a currency. However, if one island goes too far in debt it would just go bankrupt and have no impact on the value of the East Caribbean Dollar.

A country like Japan, the UK, and the USA when they get debt that is clearly going to grow without bound runs into trouble. People stop buying their debt and they have to print money like crazy as the bonds come due and because they are spending twice what they get in taxes. So they get hyperinflation and the currency value collapses till nobody uses it any more.

The Euro might be the like East Caribbean Dollar where the central bank does not print to bail out countries or it might be like a single country and print money as governments get into trouble. I don't think it is obvious which way it will go yet. It might even start down the hyperinflation path and then stop when it was clear that would not be good.

After the war, I think the European Union will be revived but not the common currency.
According to the economist Milton Friedman the € was doomed from the start for reasons that unfortunately I am not able/too ignorant on the subject to explain.
Don't forget that the European Union includes many countries outside the € zone and that there are European countries which aren't even in the Union like Norway and Switzerland, but nevertheless we exchange goods and services with them profitably.
