The crux of the article:
"One might even argue that capitalism often resolves systemic economic crises through war. After all, a war economy with militarisation, mobilisation, full employment and jingoism can be viewed as the ultimate solution to economic woes and social unrest.

The transition of Western democracy to oligarchy and the descent into soft fascism is under way.

Citizens will need to participate actively, rather than as passive consumers, to demand an end to this cycle of violence from governments and to defend the assault on democratic processes."
The last "bit" shows the basic misunderstanding of the "problem" (the dynamic powering/allowing the situation).

The "citizens" will (eventually) be the drivers OF the "situation", and are never the "solution" TO the situation.

The present "driver" of the situation is lack of emotionally-potent memory of the reality of war in the "young turks" that are assuming leadership of the various factions of the upcoming war.

Western "Republics" (incorrectly termed "democracies") ARE sliding into becoming oligarchies, due to the efficiencies gained from a "one party system", which essentially describes a "soft fascism". But the citizenries are not the "answer" to the mass insanity that pits civilizations against each other in genocide, but rather the fuel.

Any attempt to "convince" a citizenry to "not descend into a genocidal nationalistic war mob" simply feeds the insanity toward genocidal war.

It is precisely "democratic processes" that wind the coil that will explode into (GD) crisis war.

So what WILL stop the oncoming crisis war? Nothing. Is there a way to slow it down? Yes.

HOW!?

Make it seem worthwhile to wait until the day after tomorrow to commence with actual war.

And how do you do the exact opposite of that?

Telegraph weakness via "democratic processes (infighting)".

What is the "opposite" of democratic processes? Authoritarianism.

The only way to postpone "the war" is to balance competing authoritarian societies, such that the day after tomorrow continually seems the better choice as to when to go to war.

The only way to "defuse" the pent up war lust between the competing authoritarian societies, before war actually breaks out, is by some massive shocking tragedy that "resets all the factions fuel reserves" (de-motivates the citizenry from giving their "labor" to the cause).

It's possible that "this time" that tragedy will be some "emergent technological quirk" that might have, but didn't quite, escalate into a runaway "process" that would have certainly destroyed humanity's capability to "be human" ever again.

..thus the memes of Zombies, Skynet, and Alien Overlords. We "pray" for an "outside threat" to fight that isn't our distant kin.
