This post is interesting as more parallels between Trump and Macron’s interests begin to emerge, mainly relating to Brexit. Although they seem to be coincidental parallels, it could be likely that there is some plan in place to indirectly push France to cut EU ties with the UK.
Trump likely wants Haftar to win in order to secure oil production, therefore lowering production (as Libya seems to be the most controllable variable relating to crude production). As for Macron, I wonder if a Haftar rule can truly provide stability, or he is thinking of another reason to support him (such as limiting an influx of refugees into the EU)
Macron has threatened countless times to veto these unanimous ruling by EU member states to continue extending the Brexit deadline, which if successful will result in a hard Brexit, the best case scenario for Trump. A hard Brexit will result in the EU no longer feeding off UK’s udders, and instead will lead to U.S. striking trade deals with the U.K, who have been long time allies in times of distress.
(I will add Trump has close ties with and supports the efforts of Nigel Farage and Boris Johnson, both Hard Brexiters of whom Steve Bannon also endorses https://news.sky.com/video/steve-bannon ... m-11668449)
I tend to think this tug-of-war between the U.S. and EU/U.K remainers/Soros is vital, as U.S. allegiances with other nations seem to be in an unstable state. Perhaps influence on the highly persuadable Macron can help tilt the odds in the U.S. favor. Would love to hear your thoughts on this, and where my logic could be flawed.
