Keeping the southern border open, and knowingly allowing tens of thousands of Chinese military-age males into the U.S. to form "sleeper cells," clearly meets the statutory definition of treason.

The idea that we could really be in for a world war is just too unfathomable for most people. We've grown used to peace over the past 80 years and almost no one has any personal memory of WWII. Less than one percent of veterans are still alive, so the 1930s buildup has long disappeared from memory. For elite progressives, their top concern is climate change, and even those who are concerned think of it as a Second Cold War, not WWIII.

When Russia invaded Ukraine, people began to wake up a bit. However, when it became apparent Russia's military wasn't the juggernaut we once believed, Western Europe returned to its stupor. They believed Putin would be removed, public opinion would force him out, and he'd be replaced by some democratic leader. Instead, they've been crushed and imprisoned, with hundreds of thousands of Russians conscripted into the military, and Russia is moving to a wartime economy. Russia might not be a juggernaut, but they're still dangerous, and most of NATO has done little to prepare. Poland and Finland are the main exceptions, since they've got personal experience of Russian aggression.

If the normal rules applied, Trump wouldn't have a chance in hell of becoming the nominee, given his often insane rhetoric. However, he's certain to be the nominee again and has a good chance of winning in November. Biden's suffering from dementia and at this point, it's impossible to hide. It's also doubtful he's going anywhere, so the Democrats are stuck with him; similar to Wilson being incapacitated during the last 2 years of his Presidency, leaving his wife in charge.

The United States remains a superpower, not because we're in a good position, but because everyone else is even worse off. China's economy is stagnant, even taking the CCP figures at face value. Their one-child policy has screwed them over, their debt to GDP ratio is comparable to ours, and despite their massive growth, remains a middle-income nation. They're the fastest aging population in the world. I've heard plenty of talk about China thinking the long term while we're too stupid for that. Thing is, the short-term has a way of negating the long term. How many people's lives go the way they planned it?

Xi's repeatedly told his people to prepare for war, to prepare for an invasion of Taiwan, even a war with America. I've seen estimates that their military spending is close to 700 billion in reality. China has tens of millions of young men with no marriage prospects, no economic prospects, and have little to lose by going to war. They've stopped reporting on youth employment, and all of this isn't good for a stable society. China spends more on internal security than their exterior military. Their military has serious issues, but the way things are going, it's unlikely they can fully modernize. Sometimes, you have to go to war with what you have, not what you wish you had.

Even within the narrative of Neocon Republican war-hawks, Ukraine has turned from an 'easy victory' into an embarrassing monetary black hole. We are at something of a "neutral point" in terms of outward sentiment towards Ukraine, as the American machine prepares for Trump.

As the year drags on, acknowledgment that Ukraine is indeed "The Most Corrupt Country in The World" - as a pre-war Guardian headline stated - will be used to explain the military defeat of what was portrayed in the 2023 narrative as the collective might of NATO / US arms.

There are pulitzer prize contender level stories being sat on by journalists waiting for the pro Ukraine mood to sour sufficiently for their stories to get recognition. When needed, the domestic Ukraine narrative will be washed away in a tsunami of misappropriation allegations.
