Personal stuff -
My wife is doing much better physically, but has had some real ups and downs emotionally. Which is to be expected, given the situation.

I am doing all I can to be supportive and handle everything I possibly can.

We took a trip to Norway which she had enjoyed planning, and which gave her something to look forward to. She had an accident that required a trip to the ER and made it look like I had beaten her up pretty bad (there was a loose section of sidewalk she was tripped on, and it looked like she had a possible concussion and broken leg - luckily she had neither).

Then on the way home, she caught Covid. She was over it in 3 days, and it wasn't too bad. Due to her condition, and the requirements of her orchestra, she has had the vaccine and 5 boosters.

Then she gave it to me. I have had the vaccine and 1 booster in 2021, and then had it later that year. It took me about 2-3 weeks to feel ok, and I am still dealing with a cough that is slowly going away.

All of the above caused me to either not be available to post, or to not really feel like it.

As with many here, I am just waiting for the impending disasters - economic, military, cultural, political. Everything we have been talking about for years is has now been in place for a while. All we need is the lit match.

** 24-Jun-2023 World View: Future of Putin - Prigozhin deal

So it's all over, huh? There are a lot
of unanswered questions about what
happened, but here is what Gen. Jack
Keane thinks happened, according to an
interview on Fox News:

Putin had announced that all the
soldiers in Yevgeny Prigozhin's Wagner
paramilitary group would be folded into
the Russian army on July 1. This was
intolerable to Prigozhin, especially in
view of the enormous incompetence of
Russia's army in the last year.

So Prigozhin decided to roll the dice,
and he conquered Rostov-on-Don quickly.
The gamble is that he had hoped that
some generals in Russia's security
forces would join him and support him,
but nothing like that happened.

And so Prigozhin was forced to agree to
a deal. As part of that deal, he will
be permanently exiled in Belarus.

I didn't hear any analysts who believe
that the chaos has ended. The Wagner
Group has soldiers in Syria, Iraq, and
several African countries, in addition
to Ukraine. So the Wagner Group is a
complex international organization, and
without Prigozhin's active leadership,
the organization may completely fall
apart.

According to Gordon Chang, there's an
important issue involving China.
Putin's position had been considered
rock solid, but suddenly there had been
a threat from within his own security
forces. Xi will fear the same result
within China if he attempts any external
military action. In particular, an
invasion of Taiwan will require a
coordinated effort of the army, navy,
and air force, and Xi will not be
certain that all these forces will
remain loyal to him. According to
Chang, any military action will be
"compressed," so that there won't be
time for internal opposition to develop.

I wonder if Prigozhin is afraid of those Nazi Ukrainian troops. That General Keane guy says the same stuff every time. I wonder if he praises General Milley and all the other rainbow lovers.

Gradually then suddenly

Post by Jack Edwards »

I'm sorry for all you're going through Navigator. Thanks for posting.

After a whirlwind day of coup talk, what goes through my mind is the Ernest Hemmingway quote: "How do you go bankrupt? Two ways. Gradually, then suddenly"

Nobody was talking about a coup attempt, and then something that seemed well planned happened, surprising everyone. And then it was gone and now we're left confused.

We could find ourselves suddenly dealing with:
-At war with China
-A major financial collapse
-Some kind of major infrastructure hack
-The press turning on Biden and an impeachment
-A major political assasination
-A major natural disaster

Or most likely something I haven't mentioned and isn't on anyones radar.

What a world!

Regards
Jack

Someone needs to remind the Wagner chief, that when you come for the dictator, you better not miss.

Death is inevitable for everyone, so that's not much of a prediction. What is the average lifespan of a Russian man anyways? (56?) Seeing how they're all alcoholics. Dude is like 62 or something, his liver has to be well pickled by this point. I think Prigozhin somehow comes out of this looking better than Putin, but they all look terrible. Inevitable death applies to all of us, but I take issue with the idea that Prigozhin lost. He gets to clean his hands of this mess, unlike Putin.

Or all of the above at once.

The Ukrainians are not Nazis. And yes, the Russians all fear the Ukrainians, especially after what the Russians have done to them.
