I don't think Beijing will be able to turn the situation around now. Invasion seems to be imminent. If not, why would the Taiwanese FM mention it?In early November, Taiwan warned if Beijing can't create a soft landing in its economy, the threat of a Chinese invasion could be nearing.
Taiwan's Foreign Minister Joseph Wu sounded the alarm in a Reuters interview on Nov. 7, when he said, Chinese officials would likely invade Taiwan to divert domestic economic pressures if a soft landing cannot be achieved.
"If the internal stability is a very serious issue, or economic slowdown has become a very serious issue for the top leaders to deal with, that is the occasion that we need to be very careful," Wu said.

Uighurs after 're-education': prison, death or enslavement?
Yes, the Mainstream Media HAS clammed up about this. The distance effect may be working with the Saudis and their neighbors: places farther away they don't put an effort; what CAN they do about Chinese activities when the Chinese could cause trouble for them? Historically, Catholic Spain of Spanish Inquisition fame in the 17th and 18th centuries did nothing about the fact that it was the capital crime of treason to be Catholic in Sweden from 1602 to 1782--Swedish Catholic WERE executed as traitors; it didn't finally become legal to be Catholic in Sweden until 1872 or so. The Cuius Regio eius Religionis principle. What's going on in Burma is interesting in presenting the spectacle of the supposed oxymoron of Militant Buddhism; apparently what started it is the some Rohinga got infected with Islamism and the Burmese decided to just get rid of all of them. More remarks to come..

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asi ... d-12101442"NO TO CHINA"
Taiwan's Wu said China was intending to intervene in their elections, just as Tsai had named her running mate and "the campaign shifts into high gear".
"Voters won't be intimidated! They'll say NO to China at the ballot box," he tweeted.
TAIPEI: China has sailed a carrier group into the sensitive Taiwan Strait led by its first domestically build aircraft carrier as election campaigning kicked into high gear on the self-ruled island on Sunday (Nov 17).
Taiwan's foreign minister, Joseph Wu, said they would not be intimidated.

Germany was ready because the doorway to the oil in the east was closing. "Ready" means "the latest possible date where aggressive war-starting has a respectable chance of winning".Guest wrote:Germany wasn't ready for WW 2, but they still attacked Poland. Russia wasn't ready for WW 1 or WW 2, but they still fought in both. You have obviously not studied history that much. Most countries don't chose war, war chooses them. How many times does this have to be said: T h e y _ a r e _ n o t _ r e a d y _ y e t _ f o r _ w a r.
The Chinese communists aren't the brightest bunch. They seem to make the wrong choice every time. Why should this time be any different? I expect war to break out any day now. Most likely by accident.
Russia was attacked. Those who start wars (especially Gen Crisis Wars) are the aggressors, not the defenders.
DO you REALLY think that WE (the West) are going to start WW3?
Who does that leave to do the starting?
Why should they act before it's most advantageous for them to do so?
Re: Generational Dynamics World View News
Russia was allied with Nazi Germany from 1939-1941 and jointly attacked Poland and the Baltics. When Gemany attacked Poland in 1939, they were far from ready. Hitler pushed the war himself. Russia got donkey punched by their co-conspirator in 1941.Russia was attacked. Those who start wars (especially Gen Crisis Wars) are the aggressors, not the defenders.
War doesn't seem to ever work out the way people intend it to, unless you are Otto von Bismark.

Re: Generational Dynamics World View News
Sorry but war in Hong Kong or Taiwan would NOT lead to a larger strategic war. Remember that the Strategic Bombing Campaigns of WW2: First the Battle of britain, Later the Bombing of Germany and Finally the Bombing of Japan all had one thing in common; The Objective of the side carrying out the bombing was (at least temporarily) the complete occupation of the enemy homeland and/or unconditional surrender of the enemy nation. In a war over Taiwan, such an objective would apply only to a possible occupation of Taiwan, as neither China or the US war plans envision a full occupation of Each Other's Homelands.
