The point I was making is that if a million people are spread out over
a million square miles of land, and then they become refugees and end
up being crammed together into an existing city, then a million square
miles of farmland get opened up to feed people with. It's a different
angle to the issue.

That, actually, is what every nation (not necessarily "country") should do.

Nations within countries should also do this.

Nations within countries who don't do this are suicidal.

The "overpopulation" meme is long dead. It was never actually accurate (true), but that's another issue.

Those who choose "comfortable suicide" will get what they want.

Who do you suppose I'm talking about?
Liberals?
Quite so, and many "conservatives" as well, but the distinguishing characteristics of the suicidal folks are one-party-state elitists who don't understand the difference between "nations" and "countries".

..'though adequately comfortable ignoramuses, holding only very shallow and nebulous "political principles", also known as "comfy-slaves of the elite", are also of a similar suicidal bent as they are connected at the hip with their elitist masters (usually striving to become lesser-masters themselves).

Countries composed of multiple nations (which used to be called "empires") always have continual competition occurring between their internal nations along the fault-line of THE MOST POTENT differentiating HEARTFELT characteristic defining "difference" in that imperial culture.

I personally love empires during their heydays, as they "elevate" what "us" means, and I love variation and novelty (being a massive novelty addict), but all empires eventually fracture and their constituents war with each other, and new countries and empires develop, etcetera etcetera etcetera.

It's not "nationalism", or "globalism", or "internationalism" that is the "awfulness causing mistake" that makes life "less comfortable". It's the empire's failure to keep it's national populations INVESTED in remaining an empire.

It's also not authoritarianism that is intrinsically a bad thing.

Any "governing technique" that provides incentives for nations to divest themselves of motivation to remain united in empire with their "neighboring" nations is terminally flawed.

Is there a technique free of this flaw? We obviously haven't found one yet.

Nature's way of hinting at the "perfect governing technique" is in it's "national frustration correction system", which is the Generational Dynamics Cyclical Pulsation of Awesome Awfulness™ process.

...eventually we'll either take the hint, and "get over it", or not and remain having our "fun" in our little tide pool until it dries up (or floods).

The Tide Pool -- from the Broadway show Pipe Dream

It's nothing at all when the tide is high,
It's just a bunch of waves
They whip all around on the rocks
And chase all the fish into caves

But if you get there when the tide is low
And the pool is clear and clean
You can see to the bottom!
The damnedest collection of creeps ya ever seen!

Hungry flowers that live on fish,
Scooping in whatever comes
Crabs that grab another crab,
And chew his legs! The dirty bum!

Starfish having himself a munch,
Eats a mussel off the shell.
Shrimps, and lipids and snails and eels
What a smelly tale they tell!

Fighting each other and eating each other and lousing up the sea
Stupid sons of fishes if you're asking me

Out on the top of the water
Everything seems alright
There's the sun on the bay at daytime
And the moon on the bay at night

A breeze blows in from off of the reef.
You can hear the whistling buoy.
While Doc and me are chewing the fat
And talking alot of hooey.

Out on the top of the water, it's quieter than a well.
While under the water!
Under the water!
They're raising holy hell!!

Get a load of the Octopus.
Looking for a crab to eat
Oozes out of slimy weeds
Creeping on his floppy feet

Crab's too busy to see him come,
Crab's a cinch to catch because
He is chewing another crab,
Struggling in his greedy claws!

Fighting each other and eating each other
And lousing up the sea
Fighting and feeding and mating and breeding
And filling up the sea

Stupid sons of fishes
Stupid sons of fishes!
Stupid sons of fishes!!
To live in a tide pool

Oh yeah,.. that sums it up pretty well. :)

The part that I left out, at the end of my screed, was...

...eventually we'll either take the hint, and "get over it", or not and remain having our "fun" in our little tide pool until it dries up (or floods),.. or the new apex lifeform builds a beach resort over our asses.

There must have been wars, because the population growth would have exceeded the demand for food, land, water and other resources, but how these wars manifested themselves is little understood in the West. This is an area that requires additional research."

Ideology over truth? You betchum
Until the boomers realize that the early/mid-1990s post-cold war international system is not the "be all end all" system they hoped it would be; nothing positive would get done. Globalism has failed, it had clearly failed since 9/11(and arguably since 1999), but boomers pride refuse to accept that fact.

9/11 I agree, but what happened in 1999?

Several Events: Putin's Rise to power was the most important one listed here but followed on by the second Russian invasion of Chechnya, also the Kosovo war and the bombing of the chinese embassy. Finally the standoff between NATO and Russian troops at Pristina. Also the Kosovo intervention, so praised by boomers as a "success", so emboldened Bin Laden that he gave the final go ahead to begin preparations for 9/11.
