I live in South Korea, and I have experienced Chinese pollution first hand. The air pollution pouring out of China used to be called 'Yellow Dust', and it usually arrived in Korea in the spring. The last two years it has arrive in October and lasts well into the next year. Now the media calls it 'fine dust'. It is overwhelming. The air pollution is so thick that the street lights reflect off of it. It burns the eyes, throat, and nose. It turns one's skin red. It's toxic. People have to buy giant free standing air filter systems the size of dishwashers to purify the air in their apartments.

I can't imagine how bad it must be for the Chinese on the mainland. This pollution is more akin to a chemical weapons attack. No wonder the Chinese are planning for all out war. They just want to breathe fresh air.

Paris treaty was signed.

That claim was all a big farce as today's article shows. As with
everything, the Kingdom of Heaven signed the Paris treaty in order to
deceive all their vassal states (everyone else in the world), and they
never had any intention of fulfilling their commitments. And you're
pointing out that China's air pollution problem is as bad as ever.

I am shocked! Shocked, I tell you! I really thought that even after all the previous cases that they lied about their emissions that they really meant this this time! They were becoming an environmental leader! Seriously, though, I don't know why anyone would find that surprising, considering all the previous occasions they've lied on this topic. With all the environmentalists praising China even though their air quality is so low that they're selling canned air, the impression I get from it is that they're not pro-earth. They're anti-western and especially anti-American. India's pretty bad on this too, but China is even worse and pretending like their green energy is anything more than show is an exercise in delusion.

If the US decided to go all in and reduce CO2 emissions by doing such things as: trading in their SUV's for Prius's, stop using Air conditioning, dry clothes on a line instead clothes dryer, set winter max indoor heating to 60 F, replace all light bulbs with LED's, put solar panels on millions of homes. If we did all that, we would not be able measure any statistical difference in the average global temperature in 10 years (the model error bands are huge). It's irrational to believe the public would stand for it. In France right now, they are protesting a hike on diesel taxes. In the US, both Ford and GM are moving production away from small vehicles to SUVs. Brazil just announced it didn't want to host next years UN climate conference because it's too expensive. When it comes to the pocketbook - the global population is uninterested in "fixing" the global warming problem.

However, if China invested in pollution controls the air would quickly clean up. It would cost a lot of money and take a lot of resources - but the results would be measurable and obvious. Also, less soot particulate landing on artic ice would reduce ice melting.

In one scenario, we expend enormous resources for nothing we can measure, in the other we do. Which makes more sense eh? Which one do we talk about more? Who benefits?

Oh Jack,
You are far too sensible and practical to be heard. Soon "Please Adopt Me" signs will appear before unmaintained wind turbines. After all saving $1.53 a month on energy bills is vital.
Please hang in there. The crazies cannot be allowed to win the day.

being generated within South Korea versus coming from China.

I wish people would STOP defaming China. China is blamed for the world's self-inflicted woes. Enough!
