The Philippines should have allowed America to keep Subic Bay and Clark Air force base. They wouldn't be in this situation if the US Navy had never left. Now The Philippines will just be a another theater of war like they were in the Second World War.

Indeed. Too bad MacArthur did not govern the Philippines as well. Duterte is one of the Chamberlains of our times.
What mental processes must have led to Duterte's 2016 opening gambit? Now he is ensconced in China Scam City. How long before the Resistance surfaces?
Zambia: another sad lesson learned too late for Zambia but PERHAPS an example to be heeded by those drooling at Chinese dangling bait.

Maybe it is just me but all signs point to the Philippines starting off the pacific theater. With GD I try to not read too much into the short term events but its either them or NK. Are there even other contenders at this point? Sure China might try to pick off Taiwan if they don't fold from political pressure but no way that starts it. There is also no way China starts it with India, Russia, or any territorial dispute other than SCS. Barring some other obscure diplomatic hiccup, what else could start it?

Zambia is just Big China at work. "Communism: where the only profit is power".

China has brought this diplomatic crisis on itself. The Party’s ‘Made in China 2025’ blueprint is an aggressive attempt to dominate ten strategic sectors in violation of WTO principles, drawing on a nexus of vast subsidies and cheap state credit.
