John, you are much more at peace with djt's presidency than am I. Trump is an off-beat version of American upper-class not-ready-for-prime-time aristocracy. Mrs. Trump, nude photos aside, is much closer to the mark.
You seem to be saying that Kim is a boyish insecure front man for the hard core communist military. I see Kim as being heavily invested in his red phone and desk button to blow up San Franciso or Guam. If anyone should recognize ego, djt is the one.
The media is now leftist show biz. Outrageousness is trending. The kneelers seem to have pushed news readers, once called journalists, and opinionaters to new levels of lunacy. We have survived the summits. Will the aftermath live up to the hype? NO! As you predict, John, and my Dad before you, there will not be peace in our time.
Nor will I sleep better. Thank you for your well-thought out and expressed take.

Well, I slept much better last night (after Trump/Kimmy Confab Day) than I did the night before,.. and will sleep better tonight than I did last night.

..but I always sleep better after a good spate of laughing my ass off...!!

The impatience and sheer PANIC that I'm hearing (and more importantly SEEING), on both sides of the issue, are entertaining beyond belief.

The Chinese aren't ready for war,.. therefore,.. no big bad nuthin' is gonna happen any time soon. PERIOD!

So just DON'T calm your asses down and DON'T chill, 'cause I'm diggin' the entertainment value of all the hubbubb,.. however it is you spell "hubbubb".

Aloha gangies! Nā mahalo īa ʻoukou! :) <shaka!>

Governments rarely have the good fortune to be ready for war. The Germans weren't ready to fight WW2. The Japanese weren't ready either, but both felt forced to attack. The Chinese may not be ready to attack, but they might reach a point where they feel they have no choice but to attack. If people believe nations won't attack until they are ready, they need to study history and see why they are wrong. The Chinese will attack us; it's a matter of time. The Chinese probably don't know when that will be either.

For some reason, everything that Trump says and does makes sense to me. That doesn't mean he doesn't make mistakes, but it still makes sense. And that certainly wasn't true of Obama, who never made any sense to me at all, and the results speak for themselves. I believe that the reason that everything that Trump does makes sense to me is because of Steve Bannon, who is an expert on Generational Dynamics, and who used to be Trump's principal advisor, and is now, according to some reports, an informal advisor.
I believe this is the case too. It seems like Trump is racing against the clock to put all of the pieces in place so that he can wage a successful war against China and the Sino-Axis. Trump is a man action. Trump never dithers. Trump seems particularly driven now.

Good work, John.

Spot on analysis! North Korea cannot give up its nukes. For over 50 years WPK have been telling the people we/USA are hook nosed, mongrel evil devils and want to destroy the "purist people" in the world and to give up their hard earned security tools/nukes for what? BR Myers hit this 10 years ago: https://www.c-span.org/video/?292562-1/ ... anest-race
Once the DPRK gets a few million from the ROK/UN/USA the IAEA will be told to f' off and back to square one. Wash, rinse and repeat.

John,
I see something different. It maybe that Trump is thinking of the Berlin wall. An open border with South Korea would be the best outcome in terms of the first strike in a war with China. Same thing as it was with the Soviet Union - but different.

"Ready" does not mean "totally prepared". It means "Gotta do it NOW!"

Germany was "ready" because... you tell me, as your knowledge is obviously greater as to historical "things".

Japan was "ready" because... ditto.

Who is the most likely to do the initial "attacking"? The non-Chinese or the Chinese? It's the Chinese. Therefore, we're waiting on the Chinese to make the move to war first.

China is not yet ready because (rather tautologically) it hasn't "attacked" yet!

..when China "feels" that it's Go Time, then China will be "ready" (obviously).

So, the question is not "are they ready", but rather "what would ready mean (look like) to them"?

Having THAT information would be actually useful.

Aloha a me nā mahalo! :) <shaka nui!>

John, I think your analysis is spot on. I see Trump doing stuff, and though I can't say it all makes sense, a lot of it does make sense to anyone who has had to make a deal, negotiate and/or thinks the West is worth saving. I don't know if it's just the left hating because that cant ever give Trump credit or their idiocy is real - they just can't understand what he is doing.
